Tanya McLachlan-Troup

Ceramicist/Environmentalist/Educator

I am a ceramic artist based in Hobart, Tasmania, working primarily with porcelain and stoneware. My practice combines technical precision with processes that push material limits, integrating refined surfaces, pierced forms, and carefully tuned glazes to explore the contrasting properties of light and fragility, with strength in my forms.

My work draws on environmental systems, maritime and colonial histories, and scientific processes, treating ceramics as a material that endures across deep time – from Neolithic artefacts to the high performance metalloceramics in space technologies. Through constant experimentation, I interrogate how objects can hold temporal and spatial traces: imprints of place, history and human intervention.
